The embroidered artwork depicts an anthropomorphic man caught in the jungle of life experiences, wrestling with the inevitable truth of his own mortality. As death reaches out to him with open arms, the man hides a knife behind his back, hoping to slay death and prolong his life. The design contrasts the cycles of life and death through the Spanish phrases “La Vida” (Life) and “La Muerte” (Death). Luna’s piece adds a winking commentary with the Cuban explicative “Pinga”, suggesting that the entire dynamic is “F*cked.” This garment captures the tension between life and death, offering a powerful visual narrative on both the internal struggle and the cycle of existence.
