The most common rug regret is going too small. Put in your room, your dining table or your bed size, and the calculator picks the standard size that follows the rules designers use.
- Living room: leave at least 18 inches (45 cm) of bare floor on every side, with the front legs of the sofa and chairs on the rug.
- Dining room: about 24 inches (60 cm) past the table on every side, so chairs stay on the rug when pulled out.
- Bedroom: about 18 to 24 inches (45 to 60 cm) showing on each side of the bed.
Before you order, tape the outline on the floor and live with it for a day. Hides are organic shapes, so measure their longest and widest points.
